A Login, Not a Box
Hi there — it's Paul. Maybe you're the one who got roped into treasurer duty because somebody at a meeting said "you're good with numbers, right?" Or maybe you're not the treasurer at all — you just know one, and you're the kind of person who forwards along things that might actually help. Either way, welcome. This is a little bit "here's what's new," a little bit "here's something useful for the person handling your organization's money."

What's New Since Launch
Donor CRM and invoicing, so you're not reconstructing giving history from memory and a shoebox of receipts. Check printing and manual journals for the stuff that still has to happen on paper. Membership tracking so "did Dave renew?" isn't a January mystery. And two-person approval, because good internal controls shouldn't depend on everyone just trusting everyone.

The Mid-Year Gut Check
We're past the halfway mark of the year — a good excuse for a 15-minute check-in even if your fiscal year doesn't end in December. Compare budget to actual (even a rough budget counts). Reconcile your bank account against your books, not your memory of your books. And ask yourself: could the next treasurer pick this up cold? If the honest answer is no, that's worth fixing now — not in December when you're handing off.

Thanks for reading the first one. Reply anytime — I read every email, and I'd genuinely like to hear what's annoying you about treasurer life. That's usually where the next feature comes from.
— Paul, Founder
P.S. — Document handoff (what we call "The Shelf") is one of the most underrated things in GoodBooks. If you've ever had to dig through a Google Drive folder some prior treasurer named "Misc 2019," you'll get why.
